Intent Paths

Intent paths are named entry routes inside one quiz. They let a single quiz support multiple visitor goals without duplicating the entire quiz for every audience, offer, or call to action.

Use intent paths when visitors arrive with different goals, such as Book a demo, Get pricing, Product finder, Support, or Download a resource. Each intent can have its own start step, assigned steps, direct URL, split media override, end route, and completion outcome.

Intent paths connect Bio Funnel buttons, direct links, routing rules, assigned steps, split media, and completion outcomes.

When to use intent paths

Intent paths are best when one quiz has several meaningful entry goals but should still share the same builder, submissions, analytics, and completion system.

Book a demo

Start near qualification questions, then end with scheduling or sales handoff.

Get pricing

Start near budget, fit, or plan questions, then end with pricing-specific completion copy.

Product finder

Start near preference questions, then use scoring, tags, or Agent output to recommend products.

Support

Start near issue type, urgency, and contact details, then route to help or contact instructions.

Resource download

Start with lead capture or qualification, then finish with a download or email opt-in CTA.

Compare services

Start with needs and constraints, then route to the right service path or result.

Do not create an intent for every small audience variation. If two visitors should start at the same step and follow the same flow, use tags, variables, source tracking, or completion rules instead.

What an intent controls

Intent name

The label shown in the builder and selector lists. You can rename it without changing the generated slug.

Intent URL

A public link that opens the quiz with an intent query parameter, such as /q/my-quiz?intent=book-demo.

Start step

The first step a respondent sees when they enter through the intent.

Assigned steps

The blocks that belong to the intent path. A block can belong to more than one intent.

Split media

An intent-level media override for the quiz interface. Question-level images still take priority.

End route

What happens when the intent reaches its natural endpoint and no question-level Jump Logic sends the respondent elsewhere.

Routing target

Bio Funnel buttons, Jump Logic, Agent Step exits, cards, checkout routing, and other destinations can send respondents to an intent.

Completion outcome

Completion rules can show different final copy or CTAs when a respondent finishes a specific intent path.

Where to find intent paths

Open Dashboard > Quizzes > Edit, then go to Question Blocks.

The Intent paths area appears above the block list. From there you can add a new intent, select an intent chip to filter the builder view, or open Manage intents to configure the path.

Create an intent

  1. Open Question Blocks.
  2. Find Intent paths above the block list.
  3. Enter a short action-oriented name, such as Book a demo, Get pricing, or Product finder.
  4. Select Add intent.
  5. Select Manage intents to configure the start step, URL, assigned steps, split media, and end route.

When you create an intent, QuizFlow Labs also creates a URL slug. For example, Book a demo can become book-a-demo.

Configure an intent

Select Manage intents to open the intent manager, then choose the intent from the Intent path dropdown.

Start step

The start step is the first quiz step a respondent sees when they enter through this intent.

Use a start step when:

  • A Bio Funnel smart button should begin at a goal-specific question.
  • A direct intent URL should skip the general opening path.
  • Jump Logic or an Agent Step should route someone into a named path.

If no start step is selected, the intent cannot reliably act as an entry point. The manager shows a Needs attention warning until you choose one.

Intent URL

The intent URL opens the public quiz with an intent query parameter.

/q/smart-contact-concierge-demo?intent=book-demo

Use intent URLs from ads, emails, website CTAs, QR codes, or external pages when you want visitors to enter one quiz on a specific path.

Assigned steps

Assigned steps tell the builder and runtime which blocks belong to the intent path.

In Manage intents, use the assigned step controls to add or remove steps for the selected intent. You can also assign a step from the main Question Blocks list by opening that block and choosing the relevant intent under Assign to intent paths.

A step can belong to more than one intent. Shared intro, qualification, lead capture, and completion steps often belong to multiple paths.

Split media

Split media lets an intent override the default Interface Settings split image for that path. This is useful when each visitor goal should have its own visual context.

For example:

  • A Book a demo intent can show a consultation or dashboard image.
  • A Product finder intent can show product or category imagery.
  • A Support intent can show service or help imagery.

Question-level split media still takes priority over intent-level split media. Use intent split media for path-level context, then use question-level media when a specific step needs its own image.

End route

The end route controls what happens after the last assigned step for that intent, unless question-level Jump Logic sends the respondent somewhere else.

Use an end route when:

  • The path should stop early and go to completion.
  • The path should hand off to lead capture.
  • The path should send the respondent to another later step.
  • The path should send the respondent into another intent.

If an intent has an end route, make sure it also has at least one assigned step. The manager warns when the route needs attention.

Connect an intent

Intent paths are useful because several parts of the builder can route to them.

When a respondent is sent to an intent, QuizFlow Labs resolves the intent's configured start step and continues from there.

Use with Bio Funnel smart buttons

Bio Funnel smart buttons can start the quiz at an intent path.

  1. Open Intro & Bio Funnel.
  2. Expand Bio funnel builder.
  3. Add or select a Smart Button.
  4. Set Action to Start at intent.
  5. Select the intent path.
  6. Save changes, publish or update the quiz, and test the public /q/{slug} link.

Use this when the Bio Funnel is acting as a link-in-bio page, offer chooser, service router, or pre-qualification page.

Use intent-specific completion outcomes

Completion rules can target an intent. This lets one quiz show different final copy or CTAs based on the path the respondent completed.

Use intent-specific completion when:

  • A booking path should end with a scheduling CTA.
  • A pricing path should end with a product or plan CTA.
  • A support path should end with contact instructions.
  • A resource path should end with a download or email opt-in CTA.

Keep the base completion message general, then add intent-specific rules for paths that need a different outcome. See Completion Step.

Recommended setup pattern

For most quizzes, use this order:

  1. Create the main question blocks first.
  2. Add intent paths for each meaningful visitor goal.
  3. Open Manage intents and choose a start step for every intent.
  4. Assign each block to the relevant intent paths.
  5. Add split media if a path needs its own visual context.
  6. Add an end route if a path should stop early or hand off to another path.
  7. Connect Bio Funnel smart buttons, direct links, Jump Logic, cards, checkout routing, or Agent Step exits to the intents.
  8. Add intent-specific completion rules when paths need different final messages.
  9. Publish and test every public path, direct intent URL, Bio Funnel button, embed, and chatbot entry point you plan to share.

Troubleshooting

Smart button starts on the first step+

Likely cause

The Bio Funnel button is using Start quiz, or the selected intent has no start step.

Fix

Open Bio Funnel Builder, select the Smart Button, set the action to Start at intent, and choose the intended path. Then open Manage intents and confirm that path has a Start step.

Retest

Save changes, publish or update the quiz, then test the public /q/{slug} link.
Intent chip only filters blocks+

Likely cause

Intent chips in Question Blocks are editor filters. They are not public routing controls.

Fix

Use Manage intents to change the start step, URL, split media, assigned steps, or end route.

Retest

Switch back to All blocks, then select the intent chip again to confirm the assigned editing view.
Step is missing from an intent path+

Likely cause

The step is not assigned to that intent, or the builder is filtered to a different intent.

Fix

Open Manage intents, choose the intent, and check the step under Assigned steps. If you are working from the block list, switch to All blocks, expand the step, and assign the intent under Assign to intent paths.

Retest

Select the intent chip and confirm the step appears in the filtered view.
Intent URL opens the quiz but not the expected step+

Likely cause

The URL uses an old slug, the intent has no start step, the quiz was not republished, or an existing browser session is resuming an older quiz state.

Fix

Copy the current intent URL from Manage intents, confirm the start step, save, and publish again.

Retest

Open the copied URL in a private browser window and confirm the first visible step.
Intent shows Needs attention+

Likely cause

The intent is missing a start step, an end route has no assigned steps, the quiz has no public slug yet, or another route points to this intent while it has no start step.

Fix

Open Manage intents, choose the flagged intent, then resolve each warning shown in the manager. Start with the start step because other routing controls depend on it.

Retest

Reopen Manage intents and confirm the warning is gone before publishing.
Path ends too early or keeps going too far+

Likely cause

The assigned steps and end route do not match the intended path, or question-level Jump Logic is overriding the intent end route.

Fix

Check which steps are assigned to the intent, then review the intent's End route. If a specific question has Jump Logic, that question-level rule takes priority.

Retest

Run the intent URL and answer through the path until the handoff point.
Split media is not showing+

Likely cause

Question-level media is overriding the intent split media, or the interface layout is not using split media.

Fix

Check the selected intent's Split media in Manage intents, then inspect the question where the media should appear. Remove or update question-level media if the path-level image should show instead. Also confirm the quiz presentation supports split media in Interface Settings.

Retest

Publish and test the intent URL on the hosted page.
Completion message is not intent-specific+

Likely cause

The completion rule is missing, another rule matches first, or the respondent did not actually finish inside that intent path.

Fix

Open Completion, review the rule order, and confirm the rule targets the correct intent. Keep the base completion message general and place more specific intent rules where they can match.

Retest

Complete the quiz through the intended path and confirm the final message or CTA.
Agent Step routes to the wrong path+

Likely cause

The Agent Step exit, structured output, or routing destination points to the wrong intent, or the target intent has no start step.

Fix

Open the Agent Step, review its exits or routing configuration, and confirm the intended destination is selected. Then verify that the destination intent has a start step.

Retest

Run the path with test answers that should trigger that Agent route.
Installed embed behaves differently from the hosted quiz URL+

Likely cause

The embed is using an older public settings payload, or the page has cached the previous embed state.

Fix

Publish the quiz after changing Bio Funnel buttons or intent settings. Then reload the page that contains the embed.

Retest

Compare the hosted quiz URL and the installed embed using the same intent path.

Tips

  • Keep intent names short and action-oriented.
  • Use one intent per meaningful visitor goal, not one intent per minor variation.
  • Assign shared intro, qualification, lead capture, or completion steps to multiple intents when they belong to more than one path.
  • Use intent destinations when routing rules should stay stable even if the start step changes later.
  • Use split media when the visitor goal should have a different visual context.
  • Test every intent from the public URL and from any installed embed before sharing the link.
